Privacy

We keep no mailing list and collect no email addresses. The rest of this page explains what little we do see, in the language the regulators prefer.

Who is responsible

The controller of your data is ZUZU Inc. (株式会社ZUZU), a company registered in Japan, which publishes Japan Stock Files. The publication itself is unsigned; the publisher is not. For anything on this page, write to [email protected].

What we collect

• No mailing list. New fragments are announced only through the RSS feed. Until 29 September 2026 the site invited readers to subscribe by writing to [email protected]. That offer has ended; we send nothing to addresses received that way, and will delete them.
• What you send us. If you write to one of our addresses, such as privacy@ or corrections@, we receive your address and your message. We use them only to reply.
• Aggregate traffic data from our host and from its analytics script: page views, referring pages, approximate countries, browser and device types, and how quickly pages load. It reaches us as totals, is not tied to you, and we do not attempt to tie it to you.

We do not ask for your name, your employer, your portfolio, or anything about your finances, and you should not send them to us.

Why we collect it, and on what basis

The traffic totals tell us how readers reach the site, and nothing else. Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies to you, our basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the publication is read. To serve and count pages, Cloudflare necessarily handles your IP address; it uses it to work out your approximate country and does not pass it to us. What reaches us are totals that identify no one, so we judge that this interest does not override yours. Where you write to us, our basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.

What we never do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade email addresses, and we do not add them to any list.
• We do not share anything about readers with sponsors, advertisers, or the companies we write about.
• We do not build a profile of anyone.

Who else touches it

Our host, Cloudflare, serves the pages, keeps request logs for as long as its own privacy policy allows, runs the analytics script described below, and forwards mail sent to our addresses to the mail service where we read it. Cloudflare also asks your browser to report back to Cloudflare if a page fails to load (a standard called Network Error Logging); your browser keeps that instruction for up to seven days. This data may be processed outside Japan, including in the United States, under the safeguards required by applicable law. That is the complete list; if it changes, this page changes with it.

Cookies and counting

This site sets no cookies at all and runs no advertising or cross-site tracking. There is no advertising network here and nothing that follows you to another site.

We count in two ways, and we should be precise about both. This site is served through a content delivery network, Cloudflare, which counts requests on its own side: how many times pages were asked for, roughly which country asked, and how many distinct IP addresses asked, which Cloudflare calls unique visitors. It counts bots and crawlers along with people. That is server-side log data, and it reaches us only as daily totals.

Each page also carries one small analytics script, Cloudflare Web Analytics, loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com. It runs in your browser and reports the page viewed, the page that sent you, your browser, operating system and device type, and how quickly the page loaded; Cloudflare works out your approximate country from the connection. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors to produce these figures. This, too, reaches us only as totals.

Pages that show one of our email addresses also load a second small Cloudflare script, which only turns the address, scrambled against spam robots, back into readable text. It reports nothing.

What none of this tells us is who you are. We want to know whether a growing share of readers arrive by way of an AI assistant rather than a search box, and the page that sent you answers that without identifying anybody. If we add anything else that runs in your browser, this section will say so before it does, and we will date it.

Corrected 29 September 2026. Until today this section said there was no analytics script on this site. That was wrong. The Cloudflare script described above ran on this site's pages from August 2026, except for a gap between 31 August and 11 September when it was missing. The email-address script was not mentioned either. This page had promised to say so before anything was added to your browser, and did not. The correction is logged with the others.

How long we keep it

We keep no mailing list. Addresses received through the former subscription address are not used and will be deleted. If you write to us, we keep your message only as long as it takes to answer it.

Your rights

You may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop, or object to our processing of it. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days.

If you are in the EU or the UK and think we have handled this badly, you may complain to your national data protection authority. We would rather you told us first.

Children

This publication is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
