LIXIL's Policy Holdings: Forty Names and One Column
The item on shareholdings in LIXIL Corporation's annual securities report for the year to March 2026, filed June 17, 2026, prints 40 listed issuers held for purposes other than pure investment at a carrying amount of 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million) and 76 unlisted issuers at 1,320 million yen (US$8.1 million), against 44 and 79 a year earlier; seven listed issuers were reduced or sold during the year for a total sale price of 14,697 million yen (US$89.7 million), four of them, 大東建託, カネカ, トヨタ自動車 and 三井住友建設, to zero. The named table has forty rows for the issuers still held, every one ending in the same clause, and a column that reads 有 for fifteen of them.
(5)【株式の保有状況】, the state of shareholdings, is item (5) of 4【コーポレート・ガバナンスの状況等】 within 第4【提出会社の状況】 of the annual securities report of LIXIL Corporation for its 84th fiscal year, April 2025 to March 2026, filed on EDINET on June 17, 2026. It runs from page 110 to page 116 of 245. The item asks three things of a filer: how it divides its investment shares between those held purely for investment and those held for any other purpose; how many issuers it holds for the other purposes and at what balance-sheet amount; and, issuer by issuer, why. This piece reads the item in that report beside the same item on pages 106 to 113 of 239 in the 83rd-term report filed June 18, 2025 and on pages 112 to 119 of 243 in the 82nd-term report filed June 20, 2024, and follows the same shares into the consolidated notes on page 202 and the management analysis on pages 46, 47 and 53 of the 2026 report.
The first part, ① 投資株式の区分の基準及び考え方, is two sentences. 当社は、営業活動の円滑化又は事業活動に必要な外部提携の必要性が認められる場合に株式の政策保有を行い、純投資目的以外の目的である投資株式としています — the company holds shares as policy holdings where it recognises a need to smooth its sales activities or to form an external alliance necessary to its business, and classifies them as investment shares held for purposes other than pure investment. The second sentence reads 当社は株式の価値の変動又は株式に係る配当によって利益を受けることを目的とする株式を保有することはなく、当社の当事業年度の貸借対照表において、純投資目的である投資株式に該当するものはありません — it does not hold shares for the purpose of profiting from changes in their value or from their dividends, and nothing on its balance sheet for the year falls under investment shares held for pure investment. Compared character by character after removing whitespace, the part is printed in the same words in the 2025 and 2024 reports.
The second part, ② イ, states how the holdings are tested. 政策保有株式については、毎年、個別の銘柄ごとに、主管部署において、保有先との取引における売上高及び利益、投資総額を考慮し、保有目的が適切か、保有に伴う便益やリスクが資本コストに見合っているか等について、定量的・定性的な観点から総合的に評価した上で、その内容を取締役会に報告し、取締役会においてこれを検証しています — each year and issuer by issuer, the department in charge weighs the sales and profit from dealings with the investee and the total amount invested, evaluates from quantitative and qualitative standpoints whether the purpose of holding is appropriate and whether the benefits and risks of holding match the cost of capital, reports the result to the board of directors, and the board verifies it. The passage closes: これらの検証の結果、保有の必要性がないと判断される場合は速やかに売却処理を行うなど、政策保有株式の縮減に努めています — where the verification finds no need to hold, the shares are promptly sold, and the company works to reduce its policy holdings. This passage too is identical, whitespace aside, across the three reports, and a shorter form of it is printed again in note 36 (9) ③ on page 202 of the consolidated notes.
The count table, ② ロ 銘柄数及び貸借対照表計上額, has two rows and two columns. 非上場株式, unlisted shares: 76 銘柄 at a 貸借対照表計上額の合計額 of 1,320 million yen (US$8.1 million). 非上場株式以外の株式, shares other than unlisted, that is listed shares: 40 銘柄 at 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million). Two smaller tables follow. The one for issuers whose share count increased during the year, 当事業年度において株式数が増加した銘柄, prints a dash in every cell of both rows, count, acquisition cost and reason alike. The one for issuers whose share count decreased, 当事業年度において株式数が減少した銘柄, prints 3 銘柄 of unlisted shares with 売却価額の合計額, total sale price, of 71 million yen (US$0.43 million), and 7 銘柄 of listed shares with a total sale price of 14,697 million yen (US$89.7 million). The amounts are the parent company's, 提出会社, and page 122 states that the parent's figures are shown 百万円未満を切り捨てて, truncated below one million yen, where the consolidated figures are rounded.
Set the same table from the two earlier reports beside it and the count moves in one year. The 2024 report, for the year to March 2024, printed 82 unlisted issuers at 1,313 million yen (US$8.0 million) and 44 listed issuers at 35,670 million yen (US$217.8 million). The 2025 report printed 79 unlisted at 1,342 million yen (US$8.2 million) and 44 listed at 35,859 million yen (US$218.9 million). The 2026 report prints 76 and 40. The increase tables of the two earlier years each record one listed issuer at an acquisition cost printed as 0, with the reason 関係の維持・強化目的で取引先持株会に入会しており、株式の定期購入を行っている in 2024, regular purchases through a business partners' shareholding association, and the past-tense 行っていた in 2025; the 2025 table also records one unlisted issuer at 30 million yen (US$0.18 million), 追加取得 to build a stronger partnership. The decrease tables print, for listed shares, 3 銘柄 sold for a total of 2,581 million yen (US$15.8 million) in the 2024 report, a dash in the 2025 report, and the 7 銘柄 for 14,697 million yen (US$89.7 million) in the 2026 report; for unlisted shares, 6 銘柄 for 81 million yen (US$0.49 million), 3 for 1 million yen (about US$6,000) and 3 for 71 million yen (US$0.43 million).
The named table, 特定投資株式, occupies pages 111 to 116. Its columns are the issuer, 銘柄; the share count and carrying amount for 当事業年度 and 前事業年度; a column headed 保有目的、業務提携等の概要、定量的な保有効果及び株式数が増加した理由, the purpose of holding, an outline of any business alliance, the quantitative effect of holding and the reason for any increase in share count; and 当社の株式の保有の有無, whether the issuer holds the company's shares. It has 44 rows. Forty carry a current-year share count and carrying amount, the same number as the count table's 40 listed issuers, and four carry a dash, which note 1 defines: 「−」は、当該銘柄を保有していないことを示しています, the dash shows the issuer is not held. The forty rows run from the largest carrying amount to the smallest. The largest is 大和ハウス工業㈱, Daiwa House Industry, at 2,842,214 shares and 13,978 million yen (US$85.3 million), against 3,842,214 shares and 18,972 million yen (US$115.8 million) a year earlier. Then 住友不動産㈱, Sumitomo Realty & Development, at 900,000 shares and 3,952 million yen (US$24.1 million) against 500,000 and 2,796 million yen (US$17.1 million), with note 2 recording 株式分割(1株を2株に分割), a two-for-one split in which each share became two; 積水化学工業㈱, Sekisui Chemical, at 359,000 shares and 935 million yen (US$5.7 million); 住友林業㈱, Sumitomo Forestry, at 610,800 shares and 857 million yen (US$5.2 million) against 203,600 and 918 million yen (US$5.6 million), with note 3 recording a three-for-one split; スターツコーポレーション㈱ at 587 million yen (US$3.6 million); AGC㈱ at 582 million yen (US$3.6 million); and ナイス㈱ at 402 million yen (US$2.5 million). The smallest row is ファースト住建㈱ at 2,000 shares and 2 million yen (about US$12,000) in both years.
The four rows with a dash are 大東建託㈱, Daito Trust Construction, at 365,000 shares and 5,589 million yen (US$34.1 million) a year earlier; ㈱カネカ, Kaneka, at 84,600 shares and 322 million yen (US$2.0 million); トヨタ自動車㈱, Toyota Motor, at 115,395 shares and 301 million yen (US$1.8 million); and 三井住友建設㈱ at 5,775 shares and 2 million yen (about US$12,000). Each reads, in the reason column, 当事業年度において、全ての株式を売却した — all shares were sold during the year. In the 2025 report the same four had reasons: 大東建託 was 賃貸住宅、マンション関連事業で当社の重要顧客, an important customer in rental housing and condominiums; カネカ's subsidiary セメダイン㈱ was 当社タイル事業における接着剤の仕入先, the adhesive supplier to the tile business; トヨタ自動車's subsidiary ミサワホーム㈱ was 当社の重点取引先, a key trading partner; and 三井住友建設 was held 不動産事業における当社製品の受注拡大を目的に, to expand orders in its property business, with the added sentence 同社の取引先持株会を通じて株式の定期購入を行っていた. Two rows that keep a current-year figure print a lower share count than the year before: 大和ハウス工業, from 3,842,214 to 2,842,214, and リゾートトラスト㈱, Resorttrust, from 651,320 to 202,640 shares and from 1,890 million yen (US$11.5 million) to 351 million yen (US$2.1 million). In the other 36 rows the share count is the same in both years, by this desk's count; the two remaining rows, 住友不動産 and 住友林業, print higher counts, and the notes record the splits. The reduction table's seven listed issuers correspond to the four rows sold to zero and to three rows still held, 大和ハウス工業, リゾートトラスト and 住友不動産, the last read against its earlier count on the basis of the two-for-one split its note records; the desk confirmed that the count closes on that reading and prints no adjusted figure.
The reason column is where the item answers the third question, and the 40 entries share most of their wording. Every one of the 40 current rows ends 保有に合理性があると判断した, judged that the holding has rationality; by this desk's count 36 of them carry the clause 株式保有のメリット(インシェア・売上・利益・配当収入等)等を総合的に勘案し, having comprehensively weighed the merits of holding the shares, listed as インシェア, sales, profit, dividend income and so on, and 26 carry 関係の維持・強化目的で保有, held to maintain and strengthen the relationship. インシェア is a katakana term, in-share, that the table uses without a gloss and this desk leaves untranslated. Three rows put the quantitative effect differently: ㈱エプコ, ㈱放電精密加工研究所 and 竹田iPホールディングス㈱ read 定量的な保有効果は算定不能であるが、株式保有のメリット(間接的な売上への貢献度等)等を総合的に勘案し, that the quantitative effect cannot be calculated, but the merits, such as the indirect contribution to sales, were weighed. ジャニス工業㈱ lists the merits without インシェア. Under the heading that includes 定量的な保有効果, each of the 40 entries is a written explanation; three state that the quantitative effect cannot be calculated, and the other 37 name the merits weighed.
Read by the words that precede the formula, the forty rows fall into four groups, on this desk's grouping. Eleven describe the issuer as a distributor: 日本全国に展開する流通代理店, a distributor with nationwide reach, for ナイス㈱ (which also 住宅建築業も行っており, builds houses), クワザワホールディングス㈱, JKホールディングス㈱, ユアサ商事㈱, ㈱山善, 橋本総業ホールディングス㈱, 北恵㈱ and ジオリーブグループ㈱; 九州エリアを中心とする流通代理店 for OCHIホールディングス㈱; 東北エリアを中心に日本全国に展開する流通代理店 for カメイ㈱; and 静岡県下最大の住設代理店, the largest housing-equipment agent in Shizuoka, for ㈱TOKAIホールディングス. Note 4 records that ユアサ商事㈱ は、2026年4月1日付で㈱YUASAに商号変更, changed its name to YUASA on April 1, 2026. Ten rows describe a holding meant to expand orders or sales in the issuer's projects: eight use 受注拡大を目的に, to expand orders, リゾートトラスト㈱ uses 受注拡大等を目的として and 大阪瓦斯㈱ uses 売上拡大を目的に. They concern リゾート型ホテル等, resort hotels, for リゾートトラスト㈱; ㈱テーオーシー, 戸田建設㈱ and ㈱長谷工コーポレーション for 不動産事業; 日本空港ビルデング㈱ for 空港施設等, airport facilities; 東京建物㈱ and 三菱地所㈱ for オフィスビル開発等; 名古屋鉄道㈱ and 九州旅客鉄道㈱ for 沿線における不動産開発, property development along their railway lines; and 大阪瓦斯㈱ for 売上拡大 in the renovation business of its subsidiary 大阪ガスマーケティング㈱.
Four rows describe an alliance or a supply relationship. AGC㈱: 高性能窓製品の開発及び製造に関して業務提携を行っている, a business alliance in the development and manufacture of high-performance window products. ㈱エプコ: コールサービス代行業務等の住宅関連サービスに関して業務提携, an alliance in housing-related services such as call-centre outsourcing. ㈱放電精密加工研究所: 当社子会社の生産活動で不可欠な押出用金型の安定供給を行っており、外部提携の必要性が認められる為保有, a stable supplier of the extrusion dies indispensable to a subsidiary's production, held because an external alliance is recognised as necessary; the 2024 report wrote 押出ダイス where the two later reports write 押出用金型. 竹田iPホールディングス㈱: 当社水回り商材のカタログの主要印刷会社, the main printer of the catalogues for the company's water-related products, held 供給の安定及び良好な関係維持を目的に. The remaining fifteen describe the issuer as a customer or trading partner: housebuilders and developers, 戸建て、マンション関連事業で当社の重要顧客 for 大和ハウス工業, 住友不動産 and 積水化学工業, 戸建て、賃貸住宅関連 for 住友林業, アパート、マンション、病院・店舗等非住宅関連 for スターツコーポレーション, 愛知エリア for ㈱AVANTIA and AMGホールディングス㈱, 北海道エリア大手の地場ハウスメーカー for ㈱土屋ホールディングス and 近畿圏 for ファースト住建㈱; 旭化成㈱ through its subsidiary 旭化成ホームズ㈱; ㈱ヤマダホールディングス, whose group is 当社の重点主要取引先; 岡谷鋼機㈱, 愛知エリアを中心とした総合商社 whose construction division develops condominiums; ジャニス工業㈱, which sells the company's 水回り部品; 日本乾溜工業㈱, which sells 公共エクステリア; and 東洋テック㈱, whose security, building-management and maintenance divisions 協働, collaborate, on トイレリニューアル提案等, toilet-renewal proposals.
The last column, 当社の株式の保有の有無, reads 有 in 15 of the 40 current rows and 無 in 25, by this desk's count. The same fifteen names read 有 in the 44-row table of the 2025 report. In the 2024 report fourteen rows read 有: 放電精密加工研究所 read 無 there and 有 in the two reports since. The 2024 report's note 2 states the basis of the column: 当社の株式の保有の有無については、2024年3月31日現在の株主名簿によっています, the shareholder register at March 31, 2024. The 2026 report's notes to the table, as extracted, are the four quoted here: the dash, the two splits and the YUASA name change. On page 64 of the same report, under 大株主の状況, LIXIL取引先持株会, the company's own business partners' shareholding association, is the ninth-largest holder at 3,417千株, 1.19 percent of issued shares excluding treasury shares.
The consolidated statements carry the same shares under another heading. Note 36 (9) on page 202, その他の包括利益を通じて公正価値で測定するものとして指定した資本性金融商品に対する投資, states that the group designates as measured at fair value through other comprehensive income the equity instruments it holds 営業活動の円滑化又は事業活動に必要な外部提携の必要性が認められる場合に, the same phrase as part ①, and prints the fair value of the main issuers at March 31, 2025 and March 31, 2026: 大和ハウス工業㈱ 18,973 million yen (US$115.8 million) and 13,978 million yen (US$85.3 million); 住友不動産㈱ 2,797 million yen (US$17.1 million) and 3,953 million yen (US$24.1 million); 積水化学工業㈱ 913 million yen (US$5.6 million) and 936 million yen (US$5.7 million); 住友林業㈱ 918 million yen (US$5.6 million) and 858 million yen (US$5.2 million); リゾートトラスト㈱ 1,891 million yen (US$11.5 million) and 352 million yen (US$2.1 million); 大東建託㈱ 5,590 million yen (US$34.1 million) and a dash; その他 9,422 million yen (US$57.5 million) and 10,449 million yen (US$63.8 million); 合計 40,504 million yen (US$247.3 million) and 30,526 million yen (US$186.4 million). The consolidated figures are rounded, 百万円未満を四捨五入, and the parent's truncated, as page 122 states, a difference of convention consistent with 住友不動産 reading 3,953 million yen (US$24.1 million) on page 202 and 3,952 million yen (US$24.1 million) on page 111 while 大和ハウス工業 reads 13,978 million yen (US$85.3 million) on both. The consolidated total of 30,526 million yen (US$186.4 million) and the parent's 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million) for listed shares and 1,320 million yen (US$8.1 million) for unlisted are different populations, the group's designated equity instruments and the parent's balance sheet; this piece lists both and reconciles neither.
The same note prints what the year's sales did. Under ③ 期中に認識を中止したその他の包括利益を通じて公正価値で測定する資本性金融商品, the fair value at derecognition was 14,773 million yen (US$90.2 million) in the year to March 2026 and the cumulative gain recognised in other comprehensive income was 10,411 million yen (US$63.6 million), against 27 million yen (US$0.16 million) and 3 million yen (about US$18,000) the year before. Under ② 受取配当金, dividends were 867 million yen (US$5.3 million) on investments still held at year-end and 501 million yen (US$3.1 million) on investments derecognised during the year, 1,368 million yen (US$8.4 million) in all, against 1,189 million yen (US$7.3 million) and 0 a year earlier. Under ④, cumulative gains on derecognition are transferred to retained earnings and not to profit or loss, and the consolidated statement of changes in equity on page 127 prints, in the column for that component, その他の資本の構成要素から利益剰余金への振替 of (6,848) million yen, a deduction of US$41.8 million, for the year to March 2026 and (2) million yen, a deduction of about US$12,000, for the year before. The parent's reduction table prints a total sale price of 14,697 million yen (US$89.7 million) for seven listed issuers and the consolidated note prints 14,773 million yen (US$90.2 million) as fair value at derecognition; they are different measures on different bases and are placed side by side here, not matched.
The management analysis names the sales three times without a figure of their own. Page 46, on financial position: 非流動資産は … 一部の政策保有株式の売却を行ったことによるその他の金融資産の減少があったものの … 増加, non-current assets rose despite a fall in other financial assets from the sale of part of the policy holdings. Page 47, on cash flow: 投資活動によるキャッシュ・フローは、政策保有株式の売却に係る収入があった一方で、設備投資に伴う有形固定資産及び無形資産の取得による支出などから235億93百万円の資金減少, investing cash flow was an outflow of 23,593 million yen (US$144.0 million) with proceeds from the sale of policy holdings on one side and capital expenditure on the other. Page 53, on funding: 政策保有株式の売却に係る収入があったことなどから、当連結会計年度末におけるネット有利子負債は前連結会計年度末に比べて27億円減少し5,316億円, net interest-bearing debt at year-end fell by 2.7 billion yen (US$16 million) to 531.6 billion yen (US$3,245 million), the proceeds among the reasons given. On the parent balance sheet, page 210, 投資有価証券 reads 37,201 million yen (US$227.1 million) at March 31, 2025 and 26,774 million yen (US$163.5 million) at March 31, 2026.
The 2024 report's three full sales give the earlier chapter of the same list. Its named table closed with ㈱三井住友フィナンシャルグループ, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, at 266,500 shares and 1,411 million yen (US$8.6 million) the year before; ㈱三菱UFJフィナンシャル・グループ, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, at 687,100 shares and 582 million yen (US$3.6 million); and ジャパンベストレスキューシステム㈱ at 180,000 shares and 130 million yen (US$0.8 million), each with 当事業年度において、全ての株式を売却した, and its decrease table printed the three at a total sale price of 2,581 million yen (US$15.8 million). Across the three reports, then, the named tables record seven listed issuers sold to zero: two bank holding companies and a home-services company in the year to March 2024, none in the year to March 2025, when the decrease table prints a dash for listed shares, and a housebuilder, a chemical company, a carmaker and a builder in the year to March 2026. The 2024 report's notes also record two name changes among the issuers still held: ジューテックホールディングス㈱ to ジオリーブグループ㈱ and 竹田印刷㈱ to 竹田iPホールディングス㈱.
What the item answers, then, is this. How many: 40 listed issuers and 76 unlisted at March 31, 2026, from 44 and 79 a year earlier and 44 and 82 two years earlier. At what amount: 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million) and 1,320 million yen (US$8.1 million) on the parent's balance sheet, truncated to the million, and 30,526 million yen (US$186.4 million) for the group's designated equity instruments, rounded. Why: 40 entries in one column, grouped by this desk as 11 distributors, 10 holdings for expanding orders or sales, 4 alliances or suppliers and 15 customers or trading partners; 36 entries list インシェア・売上・利益・配当収入等, 3 state that the quantitative effect cannot be calculated, and the remaining one, ジャニス工業, lists the merits without インシェア, all 40 ending in the same clause. And, in the column beside them, 15 issuers the table marks as holding LIXIL shares, the same 15 as the year before.
What would change our mind
The counts in this piece that the reports do not print are this desk's tallies over the table as extracted by pdfplumber: 15 有 and 25 無, the groups of 11, 10, 4 and 15, the 36 rows with インシェア, the 26 with 関係の維持・強化, the 36 with an unchanged share count, the 14 有 in 2024 and the seven full sales across three reports. The groups were assigned by the words of each row and a row could belong to two (岡谷鋼機 is a trading house with a construction division; 東洋テック is described as collaborating rather than buying), so another reader would draw the lines elsewhere; a wrapped cell could have dropped a character in the reason text. The forty carrying amounts on pages 111 to 116 and the count table's total of 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million) are each printed after truncation below one million yen, so the desk's sum of the forty rows is not expected to equal the printed total, and no total is computed or compared here. The reduction table says seven listed issuers; four rows are sold to zero and two print lower counts as printed, and the seventh, 住友不動産, is identified only by reading its 900,000 shares against 500,000 on the basis of the two-for-one split its note records, a check the desk made and does not print as a figure. The consolidated 30,526 million yen (US$186.4 million) and the parent's 25,454 million yen (US$155.4 million) and 1,320 million yen (US$8.1 million) are different populations, the sale price of 14,697 million yen (US$89.7 million) and the derecognition fair value of 14,773 million yen (US$90.2 million) are different measures, and the 6,848 million yen (US$41.8 million) transfer in the equity statement is a different figure again from the 10,411 million yen (US$63.6 million) cumulative gain in the note; none is reconciled to another. The comparisons of wording across the three reports were made on whitespace-stripped extracted text of the pages named and would not catch a difference in a character the extraction dropped. The 有無 column's basis is stated in the 2024 report's note; the later reports' notes, as extracted, are the ones quoted, and the desk did not look elsewhere in them for a restatement.
