Two Ways to Change a Page

Thirty-five investment-trust registrations corrected on five days in one week, and a block that prints the new text without the old.

On 13 August 2026, Nomura Asset Management filed a document to change part of an earlier one. Its stated reason begins 本日、半期報告書を提出いたしましたので — today we filed a half-year report — and continues that the registration submitted on 16 February is therefore being updated. The fund is 野村外国債券アクティブファンド(確定拠出年金向け), an active foreign-bond fund for defined-contribution pension money, and the cover still prints its ceiling: 6,000億円を上限とします, ¥600 billion (US$3.66 billion).

The document is a 訂正有価証券届出書, the correction to a registration statement. Between 6 and 13 August 2026, EDINET's list carried 35 of them for domestic investment trust beneficiary certificates, from eight filers, on five dates: six on the 6th, 14 on the 7th, five on the 10th, one on the 12th and nine on the 13th.

Twenty-seven of the 35 give the same kind of reason. The filer has lodged its 有価証券報告書, the annual securities report; seven more cite the 半期報告書, the half-year report. The registration is corrected because the fund's own accounts have arrived.

That is the mechanism worth naming. A registration for a fund is not a closed document. Thirty-four of these 35 name an accounting filing as the reason they are being corrected, and the corrections go in on the day of that filing or near it.

Measured from the date each correction gives for its original registration to the date the correction was filed, the 34 report-driven corrections run from 178 days to 307, with a median of 181 — roughly the age of the registration when its accounts closed. The longest of the 34 is 307 days: two corrections filed on 13 August against a registration dated 10 October 2025. Amundi's, the one that is not report-driven, is 61 days.

Inside, the form offers two ways to change a page.

The first prints both versions. <訂正前> carries the text as it stood and <訂正後> the text that replaces it, and 22 of the 35 add a note that the underlined part is the corrected part. Across the 35, <訂正前> appears 242 times.

The second prints one version. <更新後> carries the text as it now reads and nothing else — no copy of what it replaced, no underline, because there is no comparison to mark. Across the 35, <更新後> appears 210 times and <更新・訂正後> 71.

The gauge reads three ways; the filing shows only one.

The two are not alternatives a filer picks between. They sit in the same documents: 34 of the 35 carry an updating label alongside the correcting one, and one — Amundi's — carries only the correcting label. The updating block carries two labels. Twenty-one documents carry <更新後>; thirteen carry <更新・訂正後> instead, and those thirteen are JP Morgan's five, Asset Management One's six and Fidelity's two. Nomura's registration for 野村インド債券ファンド, filed 7 August against an original of 6 February, carries the string <訂正前> four times and <更新後> sixteen. Sumitomo Mitsui DS's four-times-a-year course carries one and seventeen; its once-a-year course one and sixteen.

What separates them is what changed. The correcting block is for text the document is replacing — a name, a date, a sentence. None of the 35 gives an error as the reason it is filing: 34 name an accounting filing and Amundi's names a line being added. Thirty of them print the word 訂正部分 for what is being changed, and 22 of those tie it to an underline; JP Morgan's five print neither 訂正部分 nor 下線 anywhere, and Amundi's reads 訂正部分または追加箇所. Nomura's rolls an as-of date, <訂正前>(2025年9月末現在の持株比率5.0%以上を記載します。) becoming <訂正後>(2026年3月末現在…), and 32 of the 35 print both 一般社団法人投資信託協会 and 一般社団法人資産運用業協会 somewhere in the document; four of them print the date 1 April 2026 beside that renaming, Sumitomo Mitsui DS's two with the wording 名称を変更したこと and Fidelity's two with 名称変更される予定です. The updating block is for text that was right when it was written and has since been superseded by a filing: the fund's operating results, its financial statements, its current condition. Nomura's document says as much under 2【訂正の内容】, listing 第二部ファンド情報 第1ファンドの状況 5運用状況 as the section being updated and noting that 中間財務諸表 has been added to the accounts section.

So one form prints what it withdraws and the other does not, in the same document, three lines apart, and the difference is not editorial. A correcting block carries a prior text the filer is changing, and both versions can sit on the page. An updating block carries a prior text a later filing has superseded, and printing it would set an old set of accounts beside a new one.

All 35 use the same brackets: < and > in full width, on every block, in every document, across all eight filers. Other correction forms read in this file are not uniform that way; inside this one the bracket does not vary.

The covers keep printing what they printed before. All 35 carry the offering ceiling — Amundi's 上限5,000億円, ¥500 billion (US$3.05 billion); Nomura's 5,000億円を上限とします, ¥500 billion (US$3.05 billion), printed once for each of the India bond fund's two courses. A correction to a registration is still a registration, and the fields the cover asks for do not change because part of the body has.

Six of the 35 name the Tokyo Stock Exchange under 【縦覧に供する場所】, and all six are Mitsubishi UFJ's MAXIS listed funds. Twenty-nine answer it with a no-applicable-item line: 28 print 該当事項はありません and one prints 該当ありません. The form fixes the field, not the wording.

Mitsubishi UFJ filed 15 of the 35, Asset Management One six, JP Morgan Asset Management five, Nomura three, Sumitomo Mitsui DS and Fidelity two each, Amundi and Daiwa one each. Eight filers, 35 documents, one week.

Two hundred and forty-two blocks print what was replaced. Two hundred and eighty-one print only what replaced it.

One of the 35 gives neither report as its reason. Amundi Japan's opens 記載事項の一部に訂正を行うため, part of the original registration being corrected, and then says what: 信託終了(繰上償還)予定に関する記載を追加するため訂正を行います — a notice of a planned early redemption being added. Its <訂正前> block prints a subscription period of 13 June to 14 December 2026 and its <訂正後> the same dates with a reference mark against the second. It prints three <訂正前> blocks and no <更新後>.

That is the shape of the population. Thirty-four of the 35 are downstream of an accounting filing, and every one of those 34 carries blocks that replace text without displaying what was replaced.

Counting note. The block counts are occurrences of the strings <訂正前> and <更新後> anywhere in each document. A flat search cannot tell a heading from the same phrase inside a sentence, and I have not tried to; where this piece says a document prints 242 of one and 210 of the other, it means the phrase occurs that many times.

The gaps between original and correction are arithmetic on two printed dates — the date each correction gives for the registration it corrects, and its own filing date. Where a document names more than one date in its reason line I have taken the first, which is the original registration in all 35.

What a count like this cannot show: whether the updated text differs from what stood before it. The <更新後> block does not print the earlier version, and this piece did not go back to the original registrations to fetch it. Two hundred and eighty-one blocks — 210 labelled <更新後> and 71 <更新・訂正後> — say what the registration now reads. Whether any of them says what it already said is not on these pages.

On currency: the yen figures above are converted at ¥163.8 = US$1, the single rate this file uses, taken for 24 July 2026, for which the daily reference rate is 163.82. It is applied to every figure regardless of the date on the document that printed it.

What would change our mind

The claim is narrow: that EDINET's list for 6 to 13 August 2026, read on the morning of the 13th, carried 35 documents described as 訂正有価証券届出書(内国投資信託受益証券)from eight filers; that 27 give the annual securities report as the reason and seven the half-year report; and that the strings <訂正前> and <更新後> occur 242 and 210 times across them. The index was read on the last list date, half an hour after the last row it carries, so its 13 August page is short — 108 documents of every type where other dates hold between 239 and 742 — and a later pull could return more than 35. What would undercut the rest: a count in which any of the 35 uses a bracket other than < > for these blocks; a reason line I have mis-assigned, since the counts come from searching the reason field for 有価証券報告書 and 半期報告書 and a document naming both would fall to the first; or a different reading of the 21/13 split, which counts documents printing at least one <更新後> or <更新・訂正後> rather than weighting by how many.
