Three Filings Carry an English File

EDINET's document list carries a field called englishDocFlag. The API specification defines it in one sentence: 書類に英文ファイルがある場合は"1"、それ以外は"0"が出力されます — a 1 where the filing has an English file, a 0 everywhere else.

Across twelve of EDINET's daily indexes — 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18 and 19 August 2026 — 3,769 distinct documents appear. The field reads 1 three times.

BP p.l.c. filed an 外国会社半期報告書, a semi-annual report on the foreign-company form, at 16:54 on 5 August. Visa Inc. filed an 外国会社臨時報告書, the foreign-company extraordinary report, at 13:53 on 6 August. NVIDIA Corporation filed the same form at 14:00 on 18 August.

Those three are also the only three documents in the 3,769 whose description begins 外国会社. The form and the flag pick out the same set, exactly.

Three other documents carry the word 外国 in their descriptions, and none of them carries the flag. They are a registration statement, a semi-annual report and a correction for 外国投資信託受益証券 — foreign investment trust beneficiary certificates — and all three come from a single filer, Global Funds Trust Company.

So the English file is not a property of foreign subject matter. EDINET's company table classifies BP, Visa and NVIDIA as 外国法人・組合 — foreign corporations that file securities reports in Japan. It classifies Global Funds Trust Company as 外国法人・組合（有価証券報告書等の提出義務者以外）, a foreign corporation without that obligation. Both are foreign; only the first kind carries the flag here.

The three share a second thing. EDINET's list carries flags for the file formats a document is available in, and on all three the CSV flag is 0, the XBRL flag is 0 and the PDF flag is 1.

That is not unusual on its own. Six hundred and fourteen of the 3,769 documents have a PDF and no XBRL, and 522 of those 614 are 確認書, the two-page confirmation letters that accompany a report. Every one of the 522 確認書 in the window is in that group; not one has an XBRL version.

It is unusual in company. Six hundred and thirty-three 半期報告書 appear in the same set and 630 of them carry the XBRL flag. The three that do not are BP's, YCP Holdings (Global) Limited's and Global Funds Trust Company's — the foreign-company form, a company incorporated outside Japan filing on the domestic form, and a foreign investment trust. What that flag records is which file formats EDINET holds, and nothing about the reports.

The secCode column is empty on all three rows. That column belongs to whoever files, and EDINET's company table records no securities code for these three filers — three distinct EDINET codes, E05771, E15692 and E26362.

Two of the three are on the same form code, 102100, the extraordinary report for a foreign company. BP's is 082300, the semi-annual. All three are filed under ordinance code 010, the same ordinance that governs the domestic forms filling most of this list.

What the flag does not say is what language the document is in. A filing with an English file may also have a Japanese one; the flag records that an English file exists, not that it stands alone. This piece did not open the three documents to see which is which.

On the counts. The 3,769 are distinct document IDs appearing on twelve of EDINET's daily indexes between 3 and 19 August 2026, assembled from three pulls read on 7, 13 and 23 August. Where a document appears on more than one index date, the later listing is used. This is a count of what those twelve indexes carried, not of everything filed in the period: 11 August was a holiday and no index was requested for 20 August or later. Thirty of the 3,769 carry a submission timestamp earlier than the index date they appear on.

Every figure here is read from the list's own fields: englishDocFlag, csvFlag, xbrlFlag, pdfFlag, secCode, ordinanceCode, formCode and docDescription. No document was opened, and no figure from inside one appears.

The definitions of the flags are read from EDINET's API specification, quoted above for englishDocFlag. Where this piece describes what a field means, it is the specification's sentence and not an inference from the values.

What this does not establish: whether three is a normal number. Twelve index dates across seventeen calendar days is a small window, and a foreign company files when it has something to file. A window that happened to contain a foreign issuer's annual report would look different.
